About us

We are delighted that you have found your way to the Põhjala Catering website. Põhjala Catering helps make your event special, offering taste experiences and fresh ideas for catering all kinds of events. When creating a menu, we consider not only seasonal ingredients but also the length of the event, the number of guests, the venue and the budget. Our goal is to offer a flexible catering service matched to the format of the event — and the greatest recognition for us is praise for good food and service. We have carefully chosen our ingredient suppliers, many of whom are Estonian clean-food farm and small-scale producers. Our team's experience dates back to 2007, and we have catered for groups from 10 to 4,000 people. Our warehouse also holds a wide range of event furniture available for hire to support the service.

AS THE ONLY CATERING COMPANY IN ESTONIA, WE HOLD THE ISO 14001 ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT CERTIFICATE

Sustainability is important to us, we manage all our processes in an environmentally sustainable way, we constantly monitor our resource use and work to reduce it, we train our staff and lead by example, we sort waste into 14 types.

FOOD AND RAW MATERIALS

  • we only use eggs from Estonian chickens with the organic label. We use MSC or ASC labelled fish and fish products and preferably organic beef and lamb. In the seasonal period, our fruit and vegetables come from Estonian farmers with short delivery times. In addition, we try to maximise the use of wild products (berries, mushrooms) in the menu during the summer season. Our dairy products are of Estonian origin, and our salads, herbs and microgreens are of Estonian origin all year round and largely organic.

DRINKS

  • we only use both organic and Fairtrade coffee and tea. Most of our wine is organic. If the location and quality of the event allows, we serve tap water.

PROCESSES AND DEVELOPMENT

  • we are pioneers in environmentally sustainable catering and advise our partners and clients on the subject. We raise awareness of environmental issues and our company's activities among different stakeholders (employees, future talent, consumers and the community).
  • we design menus with the principle of minimum food waste. We maximise the use of raw materials and our sales team consults the customer on food quantities.
  • monitor our resources, i.e. the use of clean water, electricity, fuel, gas and detergents, and reduce this annually by 10% to sales.
  • train our staff and work continuously to reduce the environmental footprint of our operations. We are constantly working with the team to find ways to operate in a greener way, without compromising on quality and standards.

Short description

As part of the project, additional buildings and rooms with equipment will be built at the Põhjala Resort holiday centre for entertainment activities aimed at different groups, which were not offered before. New services will be introduced: communal cooking sessions, ceramics and art workshops, and other craft workshops.

Objective

The project increases the competitiveness of the Põhjala Resort holiday centre by creating new leisure services. This gives a market advantage: PR is unique, meets modern expectations, and attractive additional services can be booked there. The complex now includes buildings and rooms with equipment for group entertainment activities that were not offered before. The new services are communal cooking sessions, ceramics, art and other craft workshops.

Co-funded by the European Union

Result

Glass pavilions — a small side group can be hosted in parallel with other groups staying at the holiday complex.
Seating areas — make it possible to offer groups communal cooking over an open fire. This creates an attractive and distinctive activity for Põhjala Resort groups.
Entertainment building — the holiday complex gains a large space for offering joint activities to large groups.
Purchase of kitchen islands with appliances — the means to run the activities are in place.
